The first 6 examples show the 5 modes plus the continuous (connect) options.
 
  
The next 5 examples show the different node types. I was unable to use the convert to line, line before, and line after because they have been greyed out.
  
 
The above 5 examples show the transformation of nodes choices. I had to go to Edit and Select All to make these options work properly.
