Our little Sally Ann Furnace house in the back, left.

This is a picture of us with our dog Mikey. Also in the picture (in the back) is Sally Ann, the daughter of the property owners who named her after the estate. Mikey ran free as we did. He was a good companion and we loved him a lot. One day, he went off on his run and never came back. I didn't find out what happened to him until long after my mother passed away. At some point, she told Sue that she came across Mikey down the road where he had been hit by a car and killed. She sent Dad to bury him. We got another dog, a Dalmatian, but he ran too far and had to stay on a leash. The dog soon found another home somewhere else. We also got a kitten from the farm down the road. I cuddled with the kitten and loved it a lot. A few days later, I had ringworm all around my neck. Off to the doctors we went. Off to the vet went the cat, never to return.

A special memory was Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa's house in Maplewood, New Jersey. All the families with all the cousins would arrive for a wonderful feast. The kids had to sit at the "kids table", a card table set up in the living room. For this picture, though, we were allowed to sit at the "big" table. I am in Grandpa's chair at the head of the table. My mother is holding Susie and Dad has Charlie on his lap. I'm not sure where all the cousins are....maybe eating their dinner!

Another of those green, plaid dresses no doubt!

In 1955, we moved to the suburbs of Reading, Pennsylvania. The town was called Temple. It was small and we could walk everywhere we needed to go. I attended sixth grade through eleventh grade while we lived there. My activities included school sports and chorus, and Girl Scouting

This is my father working on the roof of the Temple house. It doesn't show much of the house, but then, there wasn't much more of the house to show! Dad finished off the upstairs for a bedroom for Susie and me. We used to climb out the window and sit on the little veranda on summer nights. Charlie had a little broom closet of a room downstairs. My sister Dee (Dorothy) was born when I was in the ninth grade. She was in a crib in Mother and Dad's room.

Easter, 1958

In 1961, we moved to York, Pennsylvania. The decision to move was a difficult one. It was my senior year in high school, but it was also a very large promotion for my father. He was in charge of the elementary schools in the Muhlenberg Township School District. The move to the York Suburban School District meant twice as many schools, a better salary (with 3 kids about to enter college every 2 years for the next 6 ), and the title of Elementary Superintendent. In the end, the move had to be made. So, I spent my last year of public school in a brand new high school ... new for me and new for all the students as well since it had just opened.

This is a picture of the Adams family shortly after we moved to York.

These are my graduation pictures. The first was taken at the end of 11th grade at Muhlenberg, in preparation for senior year. The second was taken after our move for my actual senior year at York. Suburban (1962).
